Captive Markets

Monetizing the Mediocre.

Because the Suburban Pharisee cannot compete in a fair, secular market, they create a captive one. They self-publish books, record albums, or launch "masterclasses" and require the congregation (and especially the leaders) to purchase them.

The Enclosed Economy

In this system, buying the leader's latest product is seen as a sign of spiritual alignment. If you do not buy the book, you are "not in the flow." This is a sophisticated form of tithing-diversion, where the flock's resources are funneled into the leader's private vanity projects.

Critical Question: If this book or album were released by a stranger on the open market, would you buy it? If not, why are you buying it now?
