Narcissistic Supply
The Suburban Pharisee is not motivated by the gospel, but by Supply. They require a constant stream of attention, validation, and submission to maintain their fragile ego.
The Addiction to Adulation
The choir is the primary "supply line." The leader uses rehearsals and performances to receive high-intensity validation. If a volunteer stops providing this (by being late, missing a rehearsal, or simply not applauding enough), the leader will experience a "withdrawal" that often manifests as rage or passive-aggressive shaming.
The "False Anointing"
The leader interprets the emotional high of the congregation as proof of their own special standing with God. This creates a feedback loop where they become increasingly convinced of their own infallibility.
